Bar safety program continues in Edmonton
After a successful pilot in Edmonton's nightlife establishments,
Best Bar None is taking applications for a second year. All Class A
Minors Prohibited venues are encouraged to apply for accreditation
and award consideration.
"The pilot exceeded our expectations, with about 20% of
Edmonton's eligible licensed premises applying for BBN
accreditation," said Kent Verlik, the AGLC Director of Corporate
Strategy and Social Responsibility and the Chair of the BBN
Steering Committee. "We look forward to having more venues show
their commitment to safer operations."
This year, the program will recognize licensed establishments
in five different categories:
- Pubs
- Large pubs (245+)
- Bars / Lounges
- Hotel / Restaurant Lounges
- Clubs
To receive accreditation, applicants have to meet the
specific standards related to safe operations and responsible
management, including:
- Responsible liquor service
- Staff training
- Compliance to regulations
- Community engagement
In addition to accreditation, all establishments going above and
beyond in the efforts to improve their business operations will be
considered for an award.
Applications for the 2012 accreditation are being accepted till
August 19.
